Our story

Dakshayani’s story is one of dreams, strength, and heartbreak—a story that still aches in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She was born into a family that nurtured her ambition, and she used that privilege to uplift others. At 16, she chased her passion for softball with the same fiery determination that later drove her to advocate for women’s education. Daksha didn’t just pursue her dreams; she inspired others to believe in theirs, convincing parents of her peers to see the power of education for their daughters.
In 1975, Daksha married Capt. S. Jayaram, stepping into the role of an army wife with grace and pride. Life as an army spouse meant moving across the country, creating a home wherever her husband’s service called them. By 1982, they had two beautiful children, and from the outside, it seemed like the perfect family. But life had a cruel twist in store for Daksha.
When Capt. Jayaram and Daksha’s sister formed a relationship, it shattered the foundation of her world. It wasn’t just the betrayal—it was the crushing weight of emotional ambiguity, the endless questioning of her worth, her role, and her place in the lives of her husband and children. Daksha, a woman who had spent her life fighting for others, now wrestled with how to fight for herself.
In her darkest moments, Daksha’s love for her children and the belief that she was standing in the way of their happiness clouded her mind. In a moment of unbearable pain and confusion, she made a decision that cost her life—a decision rooted in a heart that only wanted to secure a future for her family, even at her own expense.
The Daksha Foundation was born from this heartbreak, not just as a tribute to her life but as a promise that no woman should ever feel as alone as she did. We aim to provide more than just a safe space; we want to offer hope, healing, and a path forward for women in distress. Whether it’s through mental health counseling, temporary shelter, or simply a place where they feel seen and heard, the foundation seeks to untangle the threads of emotional abuse that so often trap women in silence.
Daksha’s story is not just hers—it is the story of countless women. And through the Daksha Foundation, we honor her legacy by standing with them, walking beside them as they find their strength, and ensuring they know they are never truly alone.
